I&M Controls’ smartPDU range provides facility managers with real-time operational status and energy consumption data to help optimise costs and maximise uptime.
Combining I&M’s vast experience in PDU design with advanced SPN® metering technology smartPDU offers clear advantages over competitor PDUs.

Comprehensive Functionality
Functionality can be customised to suit specific site system requirements with a huge range of monitor, control and alarm capabilities to choose from;
The heart of smartPDU is the Link Controller, a communication interface that consolidates outputs to the power monitoring system and supports alarm setpoint functionality. An Intelligent Link Controller is specified for projects requiring Building, Energy or Electrical Power Monitoring Systems. This is designed to allow smartPDU to accommodate a huge range of remote monitoring communication protocols including Internet-Web, Ethernet, E-Mail, SNMP, Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP, allowing smartPDU to be tailored to the client’s exact requirements.
smartPDU incorporates SPN® intelligent power metering technology. Providing local monitoring of load levels, self-contained metering units plug into sockets on special carriers next to the MCB pan assembly. The plug-and-socket concept allows service replacement of individual meters without disturbing other outgoing ways (unlike some systems that employ multi-way CT boards.
smartPDU can be specified with a number of on-board monitoring options from simple local displays (often backed up by remote monitoring) to sophisticated data-logging units from the acclaimed ION range. In conjunction with the wide range of communication technologies embraced by the Intelligent Link Controller, the smartPDU range is designed to provide customers exactly the information they need, in precisely the format they require.
smartPDUs are constructed in I&M’s fully welded, powder-coated steel enclosure range. And with 48-way panels as narrow as 600mm, the architecture of the system should accommodate the most demanding space constraints. Of course, as each smartPDU is built specifically to order, if the basic package doesn’t suit your requirements, our highly experienced Technical Team will work with you to take account of specific constraints.
I&M were amongst the pioneers of the PDU concept and have been manufacturing and installing PDUs since ICL first started building large computer rooms in the 1970s. We recognise that on-site wiring represents a significant proportion of the total cost of any PDU facility and so all our installation experience has gone into making smartPDUs as easy and fast to install as possible. A range of installation and termination options that include intelligent central cable routing, triple-stack Wago spring-cage terminals (with alternative terminations available if preferred) and pre-punched gland plates all help reduce the project’s expensive and time-consuming installation phase.
